The cup, a small universe of deep, shimmering purples and blues, is held gently in your hands. The saucer, a perfect echo of the cup's inner world, sits beneath, patiently waiting. The upper portion of the cup and the entire saucer are finished in a highly reactive, glossy glaze that evokes the colour of a dark, mature eggplant. The cup a small, handleless vessel, often referred to as a "tea bowl" or yunomi style, with straight, slightly tapered sides. The bottom third of the cup is intentionally left unglazed, exposing the natural clay body. The saucer is simple and shallow, perfectly sized to cradle the base of the cup. 

Elara knew the set wasn't really eggplant, but she called it that anyway. Eggplant felt right. Eggplant was silent and heavy, a colour that ate the light. Unyielding, made of earth and fire, a solitary, gleaming purple thing. Retreat to the sunlit corner of the kitchen and pull down the Eggplant set. Pour the dark liquid and it disappear into the cup’s violet galaxy. It doesn't try to be delicate. It's just strong. A slow, deliberate sip of the bitter tea.
